Jonathan Coulton, Skullcrusher Mountain
Jonathan Coulton is an interesting guy. He has an unusual business model going on at his website, and since he’s registered at eventful.com, you can even put in your request to have him come do a concert in your area.
Why would you want to do that? I’ll tell you. Because he’s a good singer, songwriter and musician, and because he has a sense of humor. You will be entertained.
Take, for instance, “Skullcrusher Mountain.” It’s sung from the point of view of a mad scientist, talking to the woman he thinks he could love, if she’d only relax and learn to open her heart to him. And why shouldn’t she? If only because the mountain is covered with wolves.
It contains what may be the finest verse of any song ever written. Consider:
I made this half-pony half-monkey monster to please you
But I get the feeling that you don’t like it
What’s with all the screaming?
You like monkeys
You like ponies
Maybe you don’t like monsters so much
Maybe I used too many monkeys
Isn’t it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?
That’s hilarious.
