’80s covers

September 26, 2006

fbdo2From the blog angels twenty, a shiny new 2006 cover of Kim Wilde’s classic “Kids In America.” By Kim Wilde herself, along with someone named Charlotte Hatherly. You’d have every right to think this is a shit retread by a faded popstar trying to reclaim some relevance.

You’d be wrong. It sparkles. It’ll totally make your life look like a Clearasil commercial.

  • Kim Wilde & Charlotte Hatherly – Kids In America
  • Even the name of this band has an ’80s connection.

Their cover of Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ (They Who Can Do No Wrong)”Come On Eileen” loses all the Irish charm & smutty romance of the original, but it gains a faster pace and a horn section. And God knows I’m not one to complain about a horn section. Or a faster pace.

Oh, I love love LOVE Save Ferris. Their lead singer, Monique, totally made me want to be a rock star when I grew up. Totally hot, too.

I haven’t heard anything else of theirs. Where do I start?
