Billy Idol – Happy Holidays
He did a fantastic job of making a campy, silly Christmas CD (that still manages to sound good), from the CD cover, right down to the patter during some of the songs. Like “This is Billy Idol, I want to wish you a happy holiday and a very merry New Year” right at the end of “Silver Bells.”
You can actually hear him making fingerguns while he’s saying it.
You start out the album giggling, rolling your eyes, and horrified at the cheesiness; as the songs go by, it’s like you acclimate, and it sounds better and better. It’s a little like decompressing so you don’t get the bends.
Here’s the video for “White Christmas.” It’s a must-see; he’s sneering away in full Billy Idol mode while wearing a skinny suit & tie, singing Andy Williams Christmas music on a set reminiscent of an Andy Williams CBS Christmas special, and practically giggling through the whole thing.
He looks damn good. Not just for 50, either.
