Prospect Place
Trinway, Ohio
Here’s the official site for this historic mansion, a former stop on the underground railroad. It’s got a long and interesting story.
Including some ghosts. Or maybe, a lot of ghosts. According to the ghost hunt part of the site:
“To be certain Prospect Place mansion is one of the most haunted homes in Ohio. With 150 years of paranormal history including sightings and strange activity this Dickensian mansion stands forebodingly in the rural Ohio countryside. We offer a complete paranormal experience for those willing – spend the night and expect to be surprised by the more permanent residents (some of whom have been here for a very long time).”
Ooh, and this:
“SPECIAL NOTE OF CAUTION ABOUT THE BARN:
We recommend Ghost Investigators use extreme caution while interacting with the spirit of the bounty hunter in the barn. He is not a happy or friendly entity although he has NEVER caused anyone physical harm. While in the barn you may be feel as though you have been physically touched. If at any time you feel uncomfortable in the barn, please ask your lead investigator to accompany from the building. We recommend not entering the barn without a GWA Center staff member.”
That’s from the ghost stories page. They also have a video/EVP page.
I’d really hoped to be able to go back and get a better picture before this, but perhaps that will be a post for next year. Heck, maybe I’ll go on the tour next year.
Mike Oldfield – Tubular Bells
Lon Chaney Jr – Song from Spider Baby
Vincent Price as Dr. Phibes – Over the Rainbow

I liked this photo very much. The fact that you have the building rather far from the viewer just makes it look more deserted and forbidding.
I can easily imagine ghosts in it.
Oh, thank you, Max. I had to take this one from a really inopportune place, so I do still hope to come back – I’d really like to get some shots of it at night with their permission.
I like this one too! It’s a pretty building from a distance, and the trees frame it nicely……especially with the leaves of one hiding part of the building.
Thank you, Carrie!
This place is right across the street from my high school girlfriend’s house, and daring kids to break into it at night used to be the “cool” thing to do. Of course, this was back before it was refurbished into a historic site. It used to be an important stop on the Underground Railroad, complete with tunnels leading down to the river. I’d love to see some interior shots if you do take the tour next year!
