Geektress for the Cure
This is my friend Brenda; Bren is the brains behind Geektress, a site devoted to all things geeky (and I mean all things) by an all-female staff. I’m among them but I’m an enormous slacker. Try to contain your disbelief.
Bren is putting together a Geektress team for the 2011 Columbus Race for the Cure and has designed an awesome t-shirt, combining the Wonder Woman logo with the pink ribbon, seen above.
From the Geektress page about the race:
“This year we’re forming our very own Geektress Team. If you live in the Central Ohio area and want to visit, consider clicking through our team page and signing up! Registration is $30, and you get the official race t-shirt, plus our Wonder Woman logo-d Official Geektress Team T-shirt (as you see above, modeled by moi.)
When you join the team, you have several options for participation: You are more than welcome to come walk with us on the morning of May 14th. If you’re more athletic, you can join in the run, which starts a little earlier. (You can even pay $5 extra for a timing chip to wear and run competitively, if that’s your thing.) If you’re less athletic and/or you just don’t want to get up at 8am to walk around downtown at all, you can stay home and Sleep For the Cure! Registration for all three events is the same, but you’ll be a member of our team and will get the awesome shirt no matter what! (The last day for online registration is April 21st!!!)
If you can’t make it to Ohio but you’d like a t-shirt, you can purchase one for $20.
There is a $3 shipping charge for all domestic addresses. $10 of the purchase price goes towards the cost of the shirt, $10 will go towards our team fundraising goal of a thousand dollars.
BUT! Here’s what you get for registering with our team (and remember, you don’t even have to show up, you can Sleep In for the Cure,):
Wait, what? Did we say awesome prizes? YES! WE DID!
ThinkGeek, Neatorama, and Dark Horse have all donated gifts that will go to our TOP MONEY BRINGER-IN-ERS. If you join the team, we’ll be taking note of who raises the most money, and rewarding that person with Dr. Who, Star Wars, and Star Trek trinkets. The winners will be revealed at our Official Geektress Race For The Cure Party.
What’s that? OH YEAH!
Post-race, there will be drinks. And whether or not you race with us Saturday morning, you’re invited to come out Saturday night and find out who our Geektress Team Champions are! (Details on this post-race party are forthcoming. Keep checking back.)”
Or you can donate and help me meet my goal of $100.
Whatever you do, if you get involved, you’ll feel good about it, and you’ll have fun and maybe even win awesome prizes. It’s win/win!
Doctor Who Proms 2010 – The Theme Tune (there’s a choir at the end!)
Thanks to Anonymous for the incredibly large donation! The email I was sent by the Komen Foundation gave me a name, but it went up as Anonymous on the page, so I will respect that. I am now over halfway to my goal. Thank you so much!
So how did this turn out?
The actual walk or the fundraising? The walk is May 14th. As for the fundraising, I’m thankful that I’ve been able to meet my minimum goal, but I’m always happy to keep fundraising. Thanks for asking!
Cool, will check back in May 🙂
